Bio:
Jane Wålstedt (1917–2009) was a Swedish ceramicist and one of the prominent figures in Swedish ceramic art during the 1950s and 1960s. She graduated from Tekniska skolan in Stockholm in 1945 and subsequently worked at several Swedish ceramic workshops. In 1950, she founded JANI Ceramics in Laholm together with her husband, Nils Larsson. There she developed a distinctive artistic style featuring colourful floral decorations, geometric patterns and imaginative female portraits. Her large decorative wall plates depicting stylised African women became particularly renowned and were inspired by an encounter with African women during a visit to Paris. Her works were sold both in Sweden and internationally, and her ceramics are now represented in Swedish museum collections.
