Bio:
Carl Fredrik Reuterswärd (1934–2016) was a Swedish sculptor, painter and graphic artist who gained international recognition for his conceptual and symbolic artworks. Working across sculpture, painting and printmaking, he was particularly interested in the relationship between art, language and society. His most famous work, Non-Violence, was created in 1980 in response to the murder of John Lennon. Depicting a revolver with its barrel tied in a knot, the sculpture became an international symbol of peace and nonviolence. A monumental bronze version was installed outside the United Nations Headquarters in New York in 1988. Reuterswärd's works are represented in major international art collections, and Non-Violence is regarded as one of the most recognisable peace symbols in modern art.
