The Meissen Porcelain Manufactory was founded in 1710 in Meissen, Saxony, and was the first European manufacturer of hard-paste porcelain. The manufactory became renowned for its finely hand-painted porcelain, including naturalistic floral decoration, which became an important part of Meissen’s decorative tradition. The crossed swords have been used as the manufactory’s distinctive mark since the 1720s.
