Bio:
Axel Salto (1889–1961) was a Danish artist and ceramicist and is regarded as one of the foremost innovators of 20th-century Danish stoneware. He became associated with Royal Copenhagen in 1933 and developed a highly individual vocabulary inspired by natural growth and organic structures. His stoneware evolved through his characteristic fluted, budding and sprouting styles. Sung glaze was among the glazes Salto frequently used at Royal Copenhagen, its rich variations in colour being particularly effective in accentuating his modelled surfaces.
