Bio:
Josef Ekberg (1877–1945) was a Swedish ceramicist and designer who worked at Gustavsberg from 1889 until his death. He served as artistic director from 1908 to 1917 and subsequently continued as a designer in his own studio at the factory. Ekberg was particularly known for sgraffito decoration and lustre glazes. During the 1920s and 1930s, he focused primarily on art pottery with lustre glazes, often characterised by shimmering surfaces and gilt details. His work is represented in the collection of the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm.
