Bio:
Johannes Larsen (1867–1961) was a prominent Danish painter and graphic artist and a central figure among the Funen Painters. Birds and the Danish landscape became some of his most important subjects throughout his career, founded on close observation of wildlife. From the beginning of the 20th century he worked extensively with printmaking and became particularly renowned for his woodcuts. His celebrated illustrations for Steen Steensen Blicher’s Trækfuglene from 1914 are considered a major achievement in Danish book art, and during the 1920s he produced a notable series of woodcuts devoted primarily to bird subjects.
