Elegant Danish picture frame with an oval visual opening, executed with moulded profiles, decorative ornamentation and a gilt surface. The frame displays fine craftsmanship and is characteristic of the richly decorated frames associated with 19th-century historicism.

Bio:
Valdemar Kleis was a Danish frame maker associated with decorative picture frames during the 19th century. Fine frames of the period were often constructed from profiled wood with moulded ornamentation and gilding, combining classical and historicist decorative elements. Kleis’ frames represent the Danish tradition of high-quality, purpose-made framing, in which the frame itself formed an important part of the presentation of a work of art.
