Nis Schmidt, "Graven", mixed media on paper, listed Danish visual artist.
Expressive figurative composition depicting a reclining human figure, executed in mixed media on paper. The figure is rendered with fragmented, raw contours in restrained earth tones, greys and blues, with occasional orange and reddish accents around the head. The horizontal composition and the resting position of the body reinforce the work’s quiet and solemn character. The work forms part of a series centred on the death of Christ as its recurring religious theme. Signed in pencil and dated 2018.

Bio:
Nis Schmidt 1932–2025 was a Danish painter and self-taught visual artist whose artistic practice was closely associated with ecclesiastical art and Christian iconography. He completed numerous church commissions, including altar crosses, stained-glass works and reliefs. His visual language is characterised by strongly drawn and often fragmented motifs in which line and colour function as central elements. Throughout his long career, Schmidt combined his extensive knowledge of Christianity with a highly personal and expressive artistic language.
