Expressive and abstracted figurative composition depicting two closely positioned human figures, executed in mixed media on paper. The fragmented contours and restrained, pale palette emphasise the intimate and solemn character of the subject. Bio:
Nis Schmidt 1932–2025 was a Danish painter and self-taught visual artist whose artistic practice was closely associated with ecclesiastical art and Christian iconography. He completed numerous church commissions, including altar crosses, stained-glass works and reliefs. His visual language is characterised by strongly drawn and often fragmented motifs in which line and colour function as central elements. Throughout his long career, Schmidt combined his extensive knowledge of Christianity with a highly personal and expressive artistic language.
