Mari Simmulson for Upsala Ekeby, “Agave” bowl.

Decorative round bowl in glazed faience with a stylised agave leaf motif in yellow, blue, and green tones against a ribbed brown ground. The relief decoration is characteristic of Mari Simmulson’s graphic, nature-inspired design language from the early 1960s. The model is numbered 4445 and dated 1961.

Origin: Sweden.
Material: Faience.

Condition: Very good condition with minor signs of wear.

Bio:
Mari Simmulson (1911–2000) was one of the most prominent designers at Upsala Ekeby in the mid-20th century. She is particularly renowned for her decorative wall plaques and sculptural works, characterised by bold colours, graphic compositions, and stylised natural forms. Her production from the 1950s and 1960s reflects the modernist aesthetics of the period and is highly sought after by collectors today.
