Low, circular stoneware candlestick with a centrally positioned candle holder and a wide, well-balanced base. Finished in a characteristic green and black double glaze with a lively, subtly metallic surface that flows across the form and emphasizes its calm, weighty presence. A classic example of Svend Hammershøi’s functional and architectural design language from the interwar period.

Bio:
Svend Hammershøi was a leading figure in Danish ceramics in the first half of the 20th century and maintained a long-standing collaboration with Kähler in Næstved. Today, his ceramics from the 1920s and 1930s are regarded as seminal works in the history of Danish modern ceramics.
