Bio – The Famille Rose Tradition
Famille rose (fencai 粉彩), introduced in China in the early 18th century during the Qing dynasty, is renowned for its soft, pastel enamel palette based on opaque and gold-derived enamels. This technique allowed for more naturalistic and nuanced depictions of flowers, birds, and figures, which made the style highly popular both in China and in export markets to Europe. Famille rose became one of the most prestigious porcelain types of the Qing period and is today associated with refined elegance and decorative richness.
