Biography :
Torsten Egardt Hult (October 6, 1922, in Höganäs – February 25, 2012) was a Swedish painter and graphic artist. He studied at the Skånska Målarskolan in Malmö, the Wadskjær Painting School in Copenhagen, and Otte Sköld’s Painting School in Stockholm. In 1949, he co-founded the abstract-oriented art group Grupp III in Helsingborg together with Bengt Orup and Kaj Siesjö. Hult participated in numerous exhibitions, both national (including the Swedish General Art Association and the Skåne Art Association) and international (such as the Campagne Européenne de la Jeunesse in Edinburgh in 1952 and the traveling Swedish Abstract exhibition in the USA in 1955).
Among his public artworks are a glass mosaic for the Child Welfare Center in Höganäs and a large mural at Helsingborgs Dagblad. Hult is represented in several major collections, including the Moderna Museet, Helsingborg Museum, Malmö Museum, Borås Art Museum, and the Museum of Sketches in Lund.
