Biography:
Karin Blix (1890–1989) was a Swedish painter, born in Lund. She studied at the Higher School of Art and Design (Högre konstindustriella skolan) in Stockholm from 1910 to 1912, and later at Otte Sköld’s painting school around 1939. In 1941, she continued her education at Signe Barth’s painting school and also studied for a month with André Lhote in Paris in 1939.
Blix’s art often focused on depictions of Stockholm, especially the areas around Katarina Church. She held solo exhibitions in, among other places, Härnösand in 1947 and at Lilla Paviljongen in Stockholm in 1950, and participated in several group exhibitions across Sweden.
Her works are represented in collections at the Nationalmuseum, Stockholm's Cultural Council, as well as in the municipalities of Malmö, Nyköping, Ängelholm, and Katrineholm.
Karin Blix was the daughter of Professor Magnus Blix and Martina Lamm, and the sister of artist Ingrid Hwatz and Professor Gunnar Blix. In 1914, she married her cousin, the priest Claes Hilding Blix (1881–1929).
Karin Blix’s contribution to Swedish art is significant, and her works continue to be appreciated by collectors and art enthusiasts.
