As a ceramicist, Søren Kongstrand was self-taught. In 1907, he began experimenting in earnest with ceramic experiments, which, as a wealthy businessman, he was able to pay for himself. In 1911, he made his debut at the Artists Autumn Exhibition.
SK was the wizard who worked with a material that he sometimes found difficult to tame, but which may have resulted in works that radiate a very special strength. One of SKs goals was to make the glaze resemble the strength of nature, including hoarfrost, seagull eggs and the like. Kongstrand became particularly famous for his lustre glazes.
