Vintage sort/hvidt fotografi fra 1952 under operation Blue Jay, hvor amerikanske ingeniørtropper m.fl. byggede Thulebasen Pituffik i Grønland med tilladelse fra den danske regering

Sort-hvidt gelatine silver vintage foto af en lille konvoy af skibe med forsyninger til Thule Air Base Pituffik (Thulebasen) i Grønland i 1952.

Teksten på billedet lyder:

"A small U.S Navy convoy heads for Thule, Greenland, carrying vitally needed supplies and equipment for the construction of the important northern air base.
Official U.S. navy photo released by the Dept. of Defence."

På bagsiden står der også, at der er tale om et officielt fotografi taget af den amerikanske hær - henvendelse til "Chief of Information, Navy Department, Washington 25, D.C.".

Opførelsen af luftbasen blev kaldt for Operation Blue Jay.

Konstruktionen af basen, der blev udført af USA's ingeniørtropper (United States Army Corps of Engineers, USACE) m.fl., stod på i 1951 og fortsatte ind i 1950'erne.

Den amerikanske hær transporterede byggematerialer i form af stål, træ, lastvogne, byggemaskiner, brændstof, mad og andet udstyr og forsyninger i skibs-konvojer fra Norfolk, Virginia, til Grønlands kyst ud for Thule / Pituffik.

Mål på fotografi: 25,70 x 20,50 centimeter.

Der er tale om et originalt s/h fotografi fra begyndelsen af 1950'erne med almindelige brugsspor. Dertil kommer, at fotoet har en rift i den ene side - se foto.
