The Danish Art pottery firm Ipsen, which was established in 1843 at Bornholm,9 by Peter Erasmus Ipsen. The factory was carried on by the widow of Ipsen so the items were therefore labeled from "The widow of Ipsen". The trademark monogram beneath the base is a Royal Crown and the Initials P & E. The early years were dominated by the popular heavily decorated late Victorian pottery. Also several reproduction of the work of Bertel Thorvaldsen were made in different materials and glazes at the factory. At the turn of the century a lot of important artists spent time at Ibsens, among those: Georg Jensen and Thorvald Bindesboll, who became famous in the area of silver; Just Andersen, a silversmith who started his own factory producing pewter, bronze item and invented his own metal called Disko; and a long list of artist, who had there impact on Royal Copenhagen and Bing & Grondahl. Even Axel Salto introduced his "Budding Series at Ipsen. In the 20th century they developed the very popular orange glazed series.
