L. Hjorth's factory in Bornholm was founded in 1859 and still exists, owned by the same family.
The production of the jars begins in 1928 and quickly developed into a specialty for the factory. The range was expanded from 4 sizes to contain much more than just jars, but also tea pots and small bowls. In 1960 the sale stopped to pharmacies and the series became popular amongst private people due to the design that was referred to in 1933 as the "Excellent in use" in the "New Magazine for Art Industry" by Viggo Steen Møller.
