Unusually detailed portrait of Bertel Thorvaldsen carved in wood, birch or ash and signed O.G. 1869.
The picture is hand cut and in a black painted wooden frame.
It was carved by the Norwegian artist Olaf Glosimodt, 1821-1901, who specialized in these silhouette portraits with an enormously high degree of detail. Among other things, he has also carved Ludvig Holberg, Brygger Jacobsen and a large number of Norwegian cultural personalities.
In the period 1851-1861 he apprenticed under Herman V. Bissen at the Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen.
We have never seen such detailed wood carving.
