During the First World War, he decided to join the Foreign Legion but after an injury, he was demobilized in 1915. He settled in Fontenay-aux-Roses in France where he met Fernand Léger, a famous French ceramist and decorator. He encouraged him to participate to the Salon d’Automne (a French show dedicated to Art). Fjerdingstad met with great success, the famous fashion designer Jacques Doucet bought some of his silver pieces. Three years after, he became responsible for the creation for the Christofle brand.
